While the Varsity team went 1 - 1 for the week, there are some significant milestones to report for the program. On Tuesday, 3/23, Broughton finally unleashed its offensive firepower early in the 4th period to pull away from stubborn Enloe team, winning by a final score of 11-5. The game was tied 4 - 4 going into the final stanza, but Broughton scored 4 quick goals within a 3-minute span to break the game open. Broughton's scoring was led by Mitchell Dupere (3,0), Sonny Creech (3,0), and Arthur Kyner (2,1). Carter Robinson, Andrew Keravuori, and Oliver Fleming each chipped in with 1 goal. Wills Barbour and M.Eades both had one assist in the game.
On Thursday, 3/25, Broughton lost to the state's #1 ranked team, Cardinal Gibbons, by a 7-3 margin. While the defense played well, Broughton was again slow to get its offensive rolling. Cardinal Gibbons used long, deliberate possessions and good face-off play to hold off the Caps attempt at a rally. The loss, however, had an upside. Broughton's Laxpower rating is now 91.68, it highest ever, and is ranked #14 in the state (out of 65 teams) going into spring break.
Just over halfway through the season the team's record is now 5 wins, 4 losses. But all four losses have come to teams ranked in the top ten: #1 Gibbons (2 losses), #2 East Chapel Hill and #6 Holly Springs (in 2OT). After spring break, the team returns to play on Friday, 04/09, away vs SE Raleigh at 6:00 PM, and then travel again on Monday, 4/12, for an important game against conference-rival Wakefield with face-off scheduled for 6:45 PM.
